Hi there, I am considering switching from years of Jacobson LF550 use to Toro Reelmaster, either 5410-D, 5510-D or the newer 3575-D for our fairways this year. I am looking for feedback on how these Toro models have been performing for others and what one's preferences are (and why). Quality of cut aside, what's important to me is machine reliability, ease of servicing for the mechanics and ease of operation for the workers.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ross Grieve

We have two of the 5010-H's. Our operators love them compared to the LF-3400's we used to have. Our Mechanic had issues with the edgemax bedknives but our distributor replaced all 10 for us and we've been really pleased with them. Sorry I don't have any experience with the models you mentioned.

Really hard to beat the 5510 or 5610(7" reels) and the 5410 (5" reels) is the same unit. Have demoed the 3575 but I'm not sure I would ever buy them if your course has very much elevation change. It's basically a 3100-D or 3500-D, but with upgraded hydraulic components. Doesn't seem like it would be enough power for hills. I know there are a couple of courses here in Vegas that have the 5010-H mowers and have lots of elevation change, but I haven't heard how they're doing there.

I had a 5410 years back and loved it for the cut and comfort but the ease of cleaning it off after use is what sold me on it at the time.

Let me explain this. from a mechanics point of view, leaving wet grass clippings in areas on the mower will cause rust. over time this causes major frame or axle damages. So being able to clean them easily becomes very important. second thing to look for is motor ventilation. With such small clippings from the fairways you tend to get a lot of debris caught up on the radiator screens which can cause them to over heat of not cleaned off. We found that you had to blow out the radiator fins with air to clean them out best. if you try to wash them out they just clog up. our 5410 had a bad habit of having heating issues during the summer time because of this. Our mower was 14 years old though. I will say that the Jacobsen had a similar issue too. its because of the rear mounted radiator system. My John Deere's do not have this problem because the screen is behind the drivers seat.  I took over a club with all new John Deere equipment and although I was never a Deere guy I have been impressed with their mowers.
