Is it ever too late to deep tine? Going with 1/2" solids next Tuesday. Thoughts. Plan to leave open going into winter. Just plan to roll them.

After i vertidrain my greens, I run the pro core over them with solid pencil tines. It takes away all the ridging effect I was seeing from the kick with the vertidrain. On the surface the vertiholes tighten up and your surface almost appears as if you have double pencil tined and not verti-drained at all.

It depends on where you are at. I would never even think it here.

We just finished yesterday. I like to topdress first deep tine brush then roll. Topdressing first works some sand into holes as the verti-drain is rumbling along. Works well for us = deep rooting later on.

I don't worry as long as the ground isn't frozen. I might consider a 3/8"rather than 1/2" and make sure there isn't any heaving near the surface (reduce kick and possibly depth). This year the fall has been extremely mild in the mid-Atlantic...only a few light frosty mornings so far and highs in the mid 60's for weeks. We are planning to deep tine next week and hydroject. Will probably be the last time till March only because of lack of staff.

    Keith,
I miss having the hydroject that I had at Berry Hills. Great machine that would do well here at Lake Cumberland GC.
