I've visited a lot of golf courses over the last few weeks. Before last week everyone seemed to be holding on. I'm always amazed at how drought tolerant most cool season grasses are, even poa. As long as the moisture was controlled, the turf looked pretty good. A couple of major storms in Northern Illinois that dropped 8 inches the first time then 10 more a few days later, combined with the heat and excesive humidity, was too much stress. I did see a couple of courses that looked really good though. I would attribute it to a very good irrigation sytstem that could be finely tuned and a couple of products that the Superintendents were using.

I'm with you guys, this isn't fun but it is what we get paid for. We came through okay up here with a little poa loss on one green that is tucked into a corner, no air movement and not ideal sunlight. We are taking it as an opportunity to clear more trees in the area and refine the fertility program as well as better water management including more thorough flushes to get rid of high salts, carbs, bi-carbs etc... that are present in the irrigation water.

We currently have 18 greens that are pretty damn good and 1 that is less than ideal, great opportunity to review what we were doing and tweak that program for better success in the future.
