   Hi all,
   Looking to purchase a new 110-160 gal self contained sprayer for our greens. I like the looks and features of the Smithco spray star 1008C and the Broyhill AccuPro 160. Any feedback on these units or suggestions for one comparable would be great. Thanks in advance for the help.

   I don't know about those machines, but I'm 95% happy with my Toro 1250 which we bought in 2004. What we had at the golf course I was at before was a Toro Workman with the 200 gallon sprayer, luckily I had a guy that sprayed there for me, I didn't care for it that much, but I was spoiled from the course I was at before that with a Toro 5000 series with the 45 hp Ford engine and 300 gallon tank.

   986 hours. We did just have to replace both clutches at the end of June, replaced a belt about 4 years ago, have done a little welding on the booms and it wouldn't hurt to replace the pump diaphragm (goes that doesn't look like it's spelled correctly) on a regular basis maybe at 400 to 500 hours, because when it starts letting go, you spend a lot of time cleaning pieces out of nozzles. I think if I had a dedicated mechanic just to our facility, some of those items would get repaired quicker or adjustments might be made before clutches blow. I had heard a noise about 2 months before the clutches went, but until something breaks....

   We have one with like 1500 hours on it and it works like new. Maintenance is the key to keeping anything running like new. The only problems we have had, was the flow-meter went out, 328.00 bucks, and replaced the diaphragms in the pump. The upper-end kits are not very expensive, and are easily installed.

   I say do more research. I usually go onto the used equipment sites, to verify why I use Deeres. I have seen more issues with every model (esp Toro's) I stumbled upon. I don't accept any failure from a rig. The twelve years I have been using deeres, the biggest problem I had was the pressure GUAGE craps out then needs priming again. But as long as switch isn't touched, it stays calibrated. Calibration psi / mph/ speed are all adjustable variables, so select a nozzle and a speed etc. IE: I can tweak spead and psi to use 5gals material vs measuring 620 oz, etc.
   
   Sounds like a commercial, but I pulled my hair out over Toro's that were recommended, and the consensus on three users of said multipros was -flatulence at best. -Ian

   We run two Toro 1250's and a Toro Workman 200-gallon. The 1250's worked great for the first two years, but then started getting a lot of wear and tear. One of them has 3,800 hours on it, which I think is a lot, and was having issues almost daily here the past three months. I finally had enough and went to go buy a new sprayer and was looking at the Toro Workman and the Deere Pro Gator. The Toro was about 30% more than the Deere. So, based on price, I went with Deere. The Deere also seems to be a heavier duty machine. And, if it you are only putting 160 gallons in it, weighs almost as much as a 1250.
   
   Our Deere is getting dropped off tomorrow, so ask me again in a few months which one I'll buy and my opinion might change!

   I recently purchased a new John Deere unit....and so far it's been FABULOUS. I also have an old John Deere unit and an old Toro Multipro. The Multipro has had both clutches replaced twice, new pump, new flow meter...and it STILL breaks belts every time we use it. Even the Toro people cant figure it out. ( I know it's not operator error because I've used it personally when the belt broke). I would look closely at the JD unit.
