I'm looking for what I would call a slit trencher. We have a normally open hydraulic system that needs major work. I will doing a lot of tube trenching and a conventional trencher will take too long and make too big a mess. Those that work with tubes know what I mean!

We have a fairly hardpan soil situation so durability is key. No sand here!

    Any suggestions?

As always, thanks in advance for your input!

Vibratory plow. You can rent them at any major rental store - ie. Sunbelt, Hertz, RSC....

You can also rent trenching saws. Basically a big wheel with trenching teeth on them. I used to have one that would trench 12" in the ground and about 2" wide. Used it for running new tubes and root pruning. Loved it.

Thanks! I came across this in an internet search. Have you used the eztrench? I'm looking to purchase one, as I will be working on this project for over a year probably. Lot's of work to be done!

Yes, the one I had was a bigger model from a different manufacturer. But, I have rented the EZ Trench specifically for irrigation installation and tube replacement. I'd love to get one again as we would have multiple uses for it. I want to say the one I had rented had 3" teeth on it, but the one I owned was only 2". So little cleanup we didn't even cut sod. Both had Honda engines on them.

We own the ez trench and use it a lot for pulling tubes and love it. It also does a nice job root pruning but you have to go slow.... Some on eBay for a good price too
