Hello all,  I found and older Sand Devil blower attachment in our scrap yard that does not look like it has much wear on it. I am sure it will need some attachments or parts but before I started getting into it I was wondering if any of you have been using it and how well it works?

Did you use them just for aerification? or did you try them on light topdressing also?

I guess I am curious as to if its worth my time to get it working again. No one here seems to remember using it before.

    Thanks

Hi James, we have a Sand Devil that we use during aerification. We use it right after the topdressing has had a chance to dry some and then run the Sand Devil over the green and we have seen very good success getting the holes filled with a whole lot less bridging of the holes. The biggest trick to this device is RPMs of the blower. We run at about 1/2 throttle on the blower and that seems to be the right speed. I have had people rev it up higher thinking they were doing good when in reality they were blowing a lot of the sand out of the holes. After going over the green twice, we follow with Sweep N Fill brush and green is done. Hope this helps.

Thanks, this helps a lot. not sure why they stopped using it or hardly used it. Maybe they could not figure out the speed thing.

Just curious if you ever tested it out after a regular light aerification. I have TifEagle greens and was thinking it may help work the sand into the canopy.

We have bent/poa greens here. I tried it once just to see what it would do, I will stick to using our Sweep N Fill for light topdressing. The Sand Devil just moved the sand around, where the Sweep N Fill put it down where we needed it

Thanks Paul, I have nothing to lose by trying it seeing it was sitting in our scrap yard not doing anything.

Like I said, the biggest trick is just playing with the throttle of the blower to see what works best with you. If you have any problems, please feel free to email me at paul@sugarvalleygc.com or call me at 937-372-9400.
    Good Luck!
