So we are looking at a couple more simple two way radios for the crew, and I can't justify the cost of the keypad view screen radios we get from our irrigation supplier that runs off of our Freedom (rainbird) box.

If we were to purchase some two way radios from a separate supplier, what does one need to do to have them work off the same repeater? Take to a local communications dealer and have them match frequency? I really have no idea. Thanks for any responses.

Your dealer can also get you the keypad radios for about half the cost than your irrigation dealer.

I just checked your license to see if they set you up with spare frequencies when they set-up your irrigation (they didn't). If they had, you could set all your radios up with a "talk" channel separate from your irrigation. Nothing worse than keying in a code only to have someone interrupt with conversation. Unfortunately though, you would have to apply for and then receive another frequency for this to work. If you decide to go this route, get a few extra frequencies so that the pro shop could have their own as well. Just a thought.

You can check your frequencies here: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp, or take the radio to a radio shop and they can do it as well. This may be more feasible since some radios are secured with a PL code that you would have to know for the additional radios to work with the existing.

    Hello Kyle,

We're currently using the Alinco DJ-100 transceiver to control the irrigation system and communicate with other handhelds.

Looking at your frequencies, the DJ-A40 should work. $105.00 at newegg. Look through the literature and see if it has what you want. There may be other models that fit your needs better?

It's keypad programmable and is a solid compact handheld with lots of features. I've been using the Alinco brand for over 10 years now and the performance is very good and they're inexpensive. We currently have and communicate with Motorolla and Icom radios on multiple frequencies.

    Works for us....

    All the best,
