We start very early here, around 5 am. It is dark, there is no frost. Then the sun comes up and BAMM! frost everywhere. Is there a way to predict if we will have frost or not? Temp, dew point, humidity? I have a weather station that seems to be pretty accurate.

Calm winds, clear skies, lows 40 and below = frost.

    Jeremy,

I always check the dewpoint on my phone on the ride into work as well as cloud cover and temp. Typically (exceptions always possible) if you do not have dew on the turf you will not have a frost. We are currently in a pretty dry stretch and the typical dew point in the AM has been from 10-20* but temps have been mid 30's. This morning had a DP of 18*, and a temp of 34*, and we were mowing at 6am with no fear of a frost settling in. If temps get below freezing, I will be alot more catious in the mornings. I typically do not see frost damage from foot/cart traffic unless the frost is hard and the temps are under 30.
