Hi all, I was wondering if anyone here has ever created a nursery from aerification cores? I have mostly poa annua greens and I was considering creating a nursery to match the soil and turf type. I figured it would be especially beneficial if i ever needed to do any green sodding, as the poa would blend in perfectly. Nothing more unsightly than sodding bent into poa. If anyone has done this, what steps did you take during the process and how successful was it? Also, if this is a bad idea please let me know! haha. Thanks guys!

I did one back in 1987. Long Beach, CA.

    Have your sand base ready.
Save aerification plugs from your best greens.
    Spread a couple inches thick.
Throw a little bent grass seed over the top just for the heck of it.
    Roll it smooth.
    Add some fert.
    Turn the water on.
    Mow when ready.
    Harvest when needed.

After all that, I'd still rather have 1 bentgrass green and 17 poa greens than 18 poa greens.

I once built a new putting green and added a chipping green using aeration plugs from portions of a few greens on the course. Mostly poa. I used 3/8" cores. This allowed for almost 100% coverage on the new green without building too much of a spongy layer on top of the root zone mix. The cores were spread with a meter matic drop topdresser then wheel tracked in with the sand pro tires. Keeping them moist is essential. The 3/8" cores also allowed us to harvest them without affecting play as much.

I haven't built a nursery this way but I have built a couple tees this way. It's great since they look and act just like the rest of the tees on the course. I may consider building a green height nursery this spring or fall out of plugs.

Mine was exactly like Pete described. San Francisco area 100% poa. Came out great. Near the barn(it was a barn) so great for my putting practice.

Pretty sure this is how Pebble Beach GL generates sod for all of their green renovation projects.
