In your opinion what's a decent operating budget for a 9 hole course.

    Virgil,
Operating budgets are all very different.Do you include equipment purchases or rent?Do you have a cart lease? Does it include electric or water or fuel for cart maintinance?Do you have to pay for water to irrigate? What part of club house maintinance.Warm season or cool season?I have been at some that had quick coupler water and a pull gang for everything except greens.I have also been at one that had everything an 18 hole course could want.

I started out as a super at a couple of 9's and I think the big question is what does your board want? (which is usually very unrealistic). If you work back from there with the president trying to be honest with them on were you can cut but also being realistic on what you need so you don't get fired. Use is at as growing experience on budgeting, separate capital but I am sure the accountant will probably not individualize categories so it makes it hard to fine tune a budget.

    Virgil,

That is a very open ended question. I have been involved with 9-hole courses that have had budgets that barley broke the 80K mark to 9-hole courses that had a budget approaching 700K. It all comes down to expectations, topography, surface sizes/total acreage, turf-type, budget line items, and available resources.
