There are so many sources of nutrients such as calcium carbonate, calcium nitrate, calcified seaweed.... Muriate of Potash, Sulphate of Potash....... How do you know what is good or bad? which is the best form to apply? I know some forms are more readily available and some are cheaper then others, etc. Sometimes it is just overwhelming.

I mainly use calcium, potassium, some gypsum. What are you guys using? Why are you using that specific formula?

    Jeremy,

Soil tests will help you decide which products to use. Gypsum is calcium and sulfur so it won't affect your pH, and it helps to flush some bad stuff out of the soil. Calcium Carbonate will raise your pH. Calcium nitrate is calcium and nitrate nitrogen, more-so used as a calcium and nitrogen nutritional supplement rather than a soil amendment. Muriate of Potash contains chloride, which can possibly lead to chloride toxicity issues....but it's considerably cheaper than Sulfate of Potash. Soil tests and tissue tests will allow you to make the right decisions based on your soil and plant needs.
