So I've got groomer attachments on my greens triplex. It was recommended I keep the groomers at 10% below the height of cut, i.e. I'm cutting at .125 and so the groomers should be lowered to -.0125 (or 12.5/100ths below the H.O.C.). My question is how do I accurately measure the height of the groomer, right now I've been eyeballing it and obviously the cut is not consistent. Is there a tool for this or an easy way to do it?

    Hi Dustin,
The 10% rule may be a place to start but I think you'll find it's going to be a trial and error with groomers. I will set mine flush with the rollers to 1/16in BELOW the rollers which is typical for us. Greens are so different there is no way to go by someone else's settings.

As far as a tool it's pretty easy to make something. For us since we set the blades below the roller we just mark an old height bar with lines and measure that way. If you setting above the roller you could attach a little block or put feeler gauge blades between the height bar the the groomer blades.

    Lots of options. Good Luck!

    Scott,

What are you doing with your cutting units to keep the blades from getting banged up while they are on the floor? I only go to about .020 off the deck for that reason... I'd go below if it wasn't a hassle to keep them from getting tweeked.

thanks guys. I've been putting two flat pieces of metal about 1/16" thick under each roller and setting the entire reel on true flat surface and then lowering the groomers below grade until they are just above touching the flat surface. In theory they should be somewhere between 1/32" and 1/16" below H.O.C. or less. After playing with it and adjusting constantly this has proven to be OK. Getting some good uniformity on the greens. only hard part is putting the reels back on the mower without scraping the groomers across the concrete floor
