Do you all use Teflon tape when screwing in the swing joint to your tee fitting or do you use the Teflon pipe thread sealant type stuff? The rest of the swing joint has O-rings in them.

    Thanks!

Always tape on NPT threads. We have toro heads and all heads say on bottom "Use No Pipe Dope"

Tape only, the sealant types will harden and break off into little pieces that will block the orifices in the actuator. The newer Teflon tape is expensive but you don't generally need over 4 layers. Trust it, it works.

It seems like everything involved with swing joints had o-rings towards the end of my career. My irrigation guy ordered all that stuff and I think they were called ACME fittings? When I was doing irrigation I used tape the the joints dripped for a day or two then sealed up.

I'm a tape guy myself, but the guys fixing most of my stuff like the pipe dope. So giving them the benefit of the doubt I thought I would check with others. We don't use it going into the heads, It was what they had learned from years ago. We still have a lot of Rain Bird 51's so they aren't acme thread, only when we have replaced heads with Eagles are we seeing acme thread and we have to use an adapter.

    Thanks!
