At what point do you stop worrying about frost? I am in NJ, grass is not growing but still very green. frost every day!

Here in Northern Virginia I never let the golfers out until the frost has gone, Fall, Winter, or Spring. You can still damage the cell walls of a plant that is not growing.

when the plant is dormant; for a public facility, we let them out anytime once the turf is dormant.

I just think it is difficult for golfers to understand the differences in season's, dormancy or not. Trying to keep them off turf when it is still busy would become more difficult if we let them out during the dead of winter. I also agree that dormant turf is still not completely dormant and can be damaged. Poa can become active in the January thaw with a few days of above freezing weather, sans growing out of a growth regulator during the late winter which sometimes requires us to make an additional application so that we get some effects coming out of winter.

thankfully there aren't a lot of rounds played after this point to recent year's snowfall. Have not seen damage after dormancy set in. Cautious in the spring as dormancy breaks. I don't have a scientific response, but it worked for us.

I cover the greens if I think we might have a frost each night, then in the morning after sunrise I pull covers off and even if frozen we play golf. Been doing this for many years and have never seen damage. But if uncovered with heavy frost I will see foot prints in the fall and spring, in the cold of winter never have I seen any real damage. I have seen problem when the ground is frozen and the top is not. the surface can get mushy and damage the plant under the surface. On this course it has not been a problem, or greens are 100% sand, on soil greens you might see more damage.
