fairway yardage markers Cancel The title field is required!

   I'm looking for ideas on new yardage markers in the fairways. Does anyone have any suggestions and/or pictures of what you are using? I've suggested the Kirby Markers but need other suggestions.

   We paint 12x12 patio blocks and then set them in the ground. We then paint 4x4's and cut them at 2' with rebar in them, and put them in the rough even with the patio blocks. We used to put 4x4's on both sides in the rough, but we are going to see if we can get away with them only on the right side this season.

   We use the 14" mow over dimpled "mushroom markers" in the center of the fairway at 100,150, 200 and 250. They are simple, last a long time, do not interfere with mowing or golf balls. We lift them up and wipe them off every couple weeks and paint them from time to time but easily get 15 years out of them.

   We use the Kirby markers from 50 to 200 on par 4´s and 250 for par 5´s. They have been in a couple of years with no issues, no news is good news.

   We have used color-flex markers for the past few years and really like them. You can see them well from a distance and mow right over them. They are also very affordable.

   I personally don't like the Kirby markers. Was at a course that went overboard with them and 10 years later most of them were either broken or the numbers had worn off. Seeing as how they were three wide across the fairways at 25 yard intervals, the replacement cost was astronomical. We opted to go the paint marker route and just write the yardages on them until we could figure out how to replace them. They were also a pain to edge being round and had to be done using a weed-eater or a steak knife borrowed from the restaurant.
   
   At my courses now, we use the 16" x 16" square garden patio blocks we get from Lowes. They get spray painted every time they get edged with a stick edger and can be replaced when broken in a matter of minutes. They are visible from across the fairway and don't require getting off the machine when mowing.

   We went really simple this year and my crew and members love it.
   We paint 10x10 squares in middle of fairway at 100,150,200 & 250(par 5's only)
   
   We eliminated edging and cleaning. We have to paint weekly but it's sharp and very visible.

   Twenty two years ago while building a new golf course I called Kirby about markers. They quoted me two per distance for both sides of fairway, essentially two x 100, 2 x 150, and 2 x 200, and maybe 2 x 250, I don't remember. I told them we could afford about half that, so "can I just get one for each yardage and I'll put them right down the middle?"
   
   "Nope. It's a "system." They won't work unless you have them down both sides of the fairway."
   
   "You're kidding, right?"
   
   "Nope. Down both sides, or you dont get any."
   
   "Well then, I'll take none."
   
   Plenty of times since then while playing or visiting golf courses, I've seen one down the middle.

   Our GM bought them, they were expensive, but as I say I haven´t heard any complaints from crew or players.
   
   We have just one in center. So many players have Garmin or similar now that it makes less of a difference.
