One of my inexperienced workers was brushing in some topdressing this morning and now the green is real dark, almost black. Weve put plenty of water down, and the temps are only in the 70's but should get into the high 70 this evening. Is there cause for long term damage in this case?

I do not think so, sounds like the turf was bruised, maybe severely but should recover in a couple of days.

    Aaron,

Been in your shoes just a few years ago. We built a new green and aerated for first time in July. Drug I way to much and it turned black. Looked horrible as the fairway was elevated. We had the golfers play the old green during the process. Heard the next day in the pro shop that we sprayed it with round up and killed it all by mistake. I let the pro believe his story, 3 days later looked fine. No need to worry I would think it will come around.

On you other thread about spraying pgr's on new seed I would hold off. The labels say not until established and healthy turf. If you want to spray the rest just shut the boom off over the seeded areas. When I was out there it looks like most damage is in the collars. When I have grown in greens in the past I did not spray for 6-8 weeks when they were well established.
