I am curious about the different methods supers use to clean up after verticutting their greens. I would also be curious as to different conditions that may cause you to change your regular method if you have several different methods.

I have used the double cut method after verticutting as well as using back pack blowers.

What seems to leave the least amount of mess on the greens the following morning after cutting.

    James,

We will mow behind the verticutter then we blow off the debris that is left with a Buffalo blower, then it's topdress and drag.

i find that two billy goat blowers work better than the buffalo blower v cut twice then blow off the green then sand and drag limits to about nine holes a day but a very clean tight product when done

Verticut 2x once a week. Blow off debris with a buffalo blower, topdress, drag, mow, cut cup....play!

    Regards,

Our new normal is to start at 5:00 so we can get all 27 holes done in a day. We brush, mow, verticut, mow with cleanup reels, blow with walkbehind blower, double cut with decent reels, topdress, water, cup, play. We also send a person out with a cushman to help empty buckets and clean rollers. The verticut machine empties buckets after every two passes.

We used to try to mow the debris off without doublcuting but it was not as effective.

We follow the same procedures as the ones mentioned. Our only problem is that we are cursed. We do it every other Wednesday and you can count on it being the most damp morning of the week every time! It just slows things down all the way through the process. The back nine always goes faster than the front.

I have to say, we do ours the way we do just because we only have 7 people with one being our horticulturist. She will put the flags out on the nine we aren't doing and get garbage and move markers, our other guy is mowing rough, and my one full timer will come in and topdress then go home, as his regular schedule is Tuesday - Saturday. He gets some comp time for the winter.

Randy we mow if only single verticutting.....if double verticutting as we did last week we blow off the greens with a buffalo turbine, then mow, topdress, drag, water. With single verticutting the mower seems to pick up the debris well enought to skip the blower process.

I use the sweep n fill brush for cleaning up behind verticutters, plus it stands up the remaining leaves for the mower. Here's a video I created a while back for our members. Although it highlights our activities on the day after aerating and removing cores this past spring, we typically follow a similar order of operations following a routine verticutting... but with much less sand. :)

We verticut with baskets then mow, topdress lightly, vibratory roll and water. Beautiful. Verticutting with the baskets does not leave much of a mess and the mowing cleans it up nicely. We can finish 21 greens in 6 hours usually. Cheers.

Thanks everyone, I have gotten a few ideas to try out in the future. I really love the video, it is a shame I do not have that type of blower or even pull behind brush. I guess I should be happy with getting topdressing sand though.

    Define Verticut for me.

When I go out with the Graden, there's a whole lot more too it. When I take my triplex deep, we brush, topdress, water thoroughly and mow the next day. When we "groom" with the triplex verticutter, we double cut and have no problems.

I guess its kind of a pet peeve for me when people talk about verticutting. It means different things to different people.

    Define 'deep'

    Define 'groom'
