    Hey everyone,

we are looking at purchasing two new JD sprayers for the up and coming season. But we haven't decided which route we want to go with as for sprayer pumps.

So was wondering what people's options were on which pump they prefer and why?

    Thanks for your time,

    Cheers,

    Jon

I have always found I like the centrifugal better. Diaphragm pumps seem to always take forever to prime and not last as long... IMHO.

    Hi Jon,

I've personally always preferred and used centrifugal pumps. They are reliable, durable, and with minimal staff training (don't run the pump dry basically) are 'turn-key'. If you want perhaps more versatility (higher pressures for spraying trees or something) a diaphragm pump might be the way to go. I don't have much experience with diaphragm pumps, but I would imagine just like irrigation diaphragms a pinhole leak could be a real pain.

We have 2 John Deere HD200 (a 2002 and 2007) sprayers with centrifugal pumps and have been running for 14 years here. Great pumps and very durable. When you need to, rebuilding only takes about 15 minutes of popping old seal and gasket out and putting new in. We had a diaphragm pump on a ChemPro tow sprayer when I first got here in 2002, and I did not care for that pump.

Centrifugal. They are solid and the Hypro pumps on the Deere sprayers are easily found through local spray houses.

That being said, if you spray any sort of paint, you may want to stick with a diaphragm pump. Paint will cause the seals to leak on a centrifugal.
