Need a little advice on zoysia cultivars and suppliers. Doing a little side project down on the islands where the engineers want maintained zoysia grass around the an international airport runway, 50acres total (yes you read that right). Ill need seeded preferably salt/drought tolerant. Im mainly a paspalum guy with no zoysia experience so looking for a little point in the right direction. Thanks guys

The engineers here arent bright...but ill humor them anyway

Seeded Zoysia not much and cost is high but Zenith Zoysia and Compadre Zoysia are two okay types as for salt okay not sure in the seed types. They need paspalum or a spriged Zoysia like El Toro maybe.

Where you are and for salt tolerance Paspalum is the correct choice without question!

Paspalum is what I have suggested as an alternative, like I said I have no idea about zoysia. 185 acres of maintained grass alongside an airport runway. In my estimation its a ridiculous waste of water and resources, not to mention the possibility of a large mainline leak right next to a runway has to be some sort of safety issue. The airport is located in the southern carribean along side the ocean. But thanks for the help guys!

I am located in southern Indiana. I am wanting to move around some zoysia. My question is, is it to late in the year? I am wanting to put it around my greens where rye has taken over between the collars and the fairways(Bermuda). Thanks for the input.

Personally, I would wait till it is completely dormant. I think there is too much potential for damage right now coming into winter. JMHO

My many years of experience with Zoysia in the transition zone, Washington DC area , we always want to do sod work with it early spring or when it is growing strong. Late fall or early winter is time to let dormant Zoysia lay low. Meyers Zoysia was King for a long time in this area and still is a great turf.

    Chase:

You will be fine. I have laid plenty of zoysia during the fall. It might not root until spring, but it will green up just fine. You can even spray your post emerge over the top of it. With a couple of warm weeks yet this fall you may even get it to root. Go for it!
