I am looking to purchase a wire locator for locating underground wires, I have used the progressive electronics for years, but was wondering if there is something better?

I am not sure if its possible but is there a locator that can locate pipe without a wire?

    Thanks in advance.

We just bought the Armada Pro 800. Haven't used it much but so far so good. Replaced an old Progressive. It was about $50 cheaper with similar or better features than the high-end Progressive.

We have a Greenlee 521a and it is great, easy to use. As far as pipe with no wires us the witching method, it really does work.

Our utility department just upgraded to this from another Schonstedt model. We inherited their old one that is no longer made. Both work wonderfully and much better than the old Progressive handheld wand with earphones.

I don't know of any way to find PVC pipe that is non-metallic unless you use ground penetrating radar. In that case, we use a Mala model cart. But even with about a $10k price tag, we still finding ourselves digging a lot of exploratory holes.

Just purchased a Pipe Horn this year, and I love it. It has traced/located everything we've needed to find so far...

I have a Pipehorn locator that I'd like to sell. It's the model listed in the above post, and is in PERFECT condition. I picked it up at an auction and planned to use it, but the course I am at now had a brand new locator when I arrived. Let me know if you're interested.

We have an Amprobe G3000. It has the ability to also pick up power and Comm lines without attaching a tracer. Best Locator that I have ever used. Has a Visual and Audible locate to help making locating very easy.
