We topdress greens weekly and need a dependable topdresser. Currently using a turfco sp 1530. Terrible uniformity when using fine sands. Looking at new turfco 1550 or toro propass 200. Anyone have pros or cons on either?

I have nothing but good things to say for the cart mounted Dakota 410. Never seems to miss a beat, unless operator error comes in to play. We topdress every 2 weeks, great uniformity, one pass with cocomat and its all over with. If I go really light, I can get it uniform enough to not have to drag and be able to water it in.

I have a 2002 Dakota 410 Tow type...Can't find anything negative about it. Tow vehicle is with a 2002 Progator Gas. Never misses a beat. Honda engine, manual controls.

Only complaint about it was the latch on the cover for the engine compartment....just took the latch off.

Use it for greens, light and hole fill after aeration, tees, approaches and 2 fairways that are regularly done at 7 tons/acre 4x season.

    Good luck.

I has the Pro Pass before Toro bought it. Can't imagine anything is better. You can spread sand so light it is hard to notice.

Or so heavy it easily fills holes after aerification

I used to love my Meter Matic at the last golf course I was at, especially after putting on a new cheveron belt.

Currently have a Terra Topper works great for light topdressings, not so much for filling in holes.

We just got a Turfco sp 1530 mounted on a cushman truckster. We absolutely love it we switched from having to use dried #10 sand in our Vicon to wet G sand and haven't seen any uniformity issues. One quick pass with a old driving range mat and the sand is gone.

Having used the ProPass and the Dakota 410, I'd give my vote to the Dakota. It always seemed to be a little easier to adjust and its was always a nice even spread.

Having said this I was a ProPass guy and swore by it, until I went to a course with a Dakota. I'm at a course with a ProPass again and would still prefer the Dakota but the ProPass still does a nice job!

This is our issue when using fine sand. The sand pours out between the spinners.

Dru that is the old Turfco 1530 isn't it? We had the same problem and had to mount a old lapping compound bucket on the back between the spinners. The new ones don't have that problem. Also worn spinner blades will do that to.

Yes it is the old model. It has new blades, belt belly pan and hydraulic motor. It's also for sale!

The ProPass is great but if you're not using dry sand be ready to have to adjust a lot of your settings pretty much every time out. Even slight changes in moisture content of the sand seem to have an effect on uniformity. Once you get it dialed in, it's a great machine with awesome uniformity. It's just a little bit of a pain to have to tweak it all the time. Also the wireless option, while pretty cool, can be a little buggy at times if you're in an area where there's a lot of other wireless signals (i.e. neighborhoods) or high voltage lines around.

Dakota 410 for greens and tees. I think Dakota makes some great products.
