When to fertilize greens

Each year I plan to granularly fertilize greens a week before aerification and each year other work gets in the way or we have an event so I do not get to it. Now I am 6 days out, with events most of the week and no time to put to put it down so I will juice them up with some urea in the spray tank.

I could put it down after aerification but before topdressing but then we would drag it around. I could put it down after topdressing because we are not going to mow for a couple days anyway but sometimes we come back with more sand or an additional dragging the day after and once again we would drag it around.

We only use a granular one a year so this is our one big shot.

    When do you fertilize?

I'm assuming you are spraying them before aerification anyways? Correct?

If you are, instead of juicing them with straight Urea, why not try hitting them with a controlled release liquid? That way you are getting your foliar down, while also providing a shot to the soil when you water later that day.

You could still come back in after aerification is complete and hit them with your granular.

    Andy,

We spray a controlled release every two weeks all season as the basis of our fertilization program. The rate depends on the time of year and growth. They are healthy, I am looking to give them a boost to recover from aerifcation as fast as possible.

There just isn't a good time to put down a granular product so I wanted thought from others on what works for them.

We will use either straight 21-0-0 or Lebanon 16-4-8 right after or a few days after aerification to help speed our healing process. I like the 16-4-8 because it has some minors and K. The 15 units of nitrogen is ammonium sulfate. I also put down another granular though.

    Best Phos 11-55-0

    .5 lb actual N
    1 lb of actual P

    and 5 lbs of bentseed!

    Doesn't get any more complicated

I've done anything from 4-5 days before, to right behind the brushing and rolling. If you use a soluble product, then it shouldn't matter if you are coming back later with more sand or brushing, as long as you have watered it in and broke it down.
