We are a course in Montana who has experienced flood conditions to some extent over the last few months. Some of the low areas have had standing water in them for over 50 days. The problem was the groundwater/water table was so high that none of the low areas ever completely dried out no matter how much we pumped them.
Now the water is starting to recede and it is clear that we have several acres of dead turf. Any thoughts/experiences on the best way to re-establish grass in these areas. Procedures? Products? Any ideas would be appreciated.

A similar problem happened in Salem Mass for the Senior open, however it was winter damage. With vary little time to spare the Superintendent overseeded his bent fairways with Rye. All of us Superintendents out there gave him some shit, however he was later the Super of the Year. My suggestion would be, overseed with perennial rye for quick germination. If you have bent fairways, or Kentucky blue it will eventually take over. Good Luck!

Went thru a few floods years ago. We had lots of dead turf after one particular flood. The silt that remained after the water receded was the biggest issue. We used a fire hose connected to a hydrant (with a water meter of course) to blow as much slit as possible off the playing surfaces...and lots of manpower with squeegees, shovels, rakes, etc. We then quadruple aerified, slit seeded, drop seeded, broke up the plugs, and fertilized. We seeded the fairways with bent and the rough with straight perennial rye. Both came in fast and dense. Bent germinates almost as fast as rye so don't be afraid of time with bent.
