Does anyone know of a good water testing lab that they have used in the past. We are looking to test our irrigation water that is both Desal and recycled water.

Hello Hacker Tom, Where are you? What are issues with water quality? With a bit of info we can get you pointed in right direction. Sampling technique and keeping sample cool until it reaches lab are important during summer heat.

So Michael in your post about sampling you mentioned keeping the sample cool until tested. If it's coming out a well if will be reasonably cool..........we fill our irrigation lake with 4 wells. But if coming straight from the lake it may be near atmospheric temps these days? Just trying to get more info.

    Hi David,

Many times when samples are shipped around the world or sit in a depot over the weekend, they lose cation / anion balance with normally cations losing ground. It is important to take samples from sprinkler heads or hand watering hose after water has been running a sufficient time to make sure system is fresh. It is important to clean containers thoroughly with water being tested and then fill to very top to prevent oxygen from reacting with bacteria in the water.

Effluent water and nutrient rich water in particular should be kept cool to minimize biological activity. Keep refrigerated until the courier ( prearranged ) arrives and a cooler should be used if sample is going a long way.

Your cation : anion ratio should be within .95-1.05 ( 5% either way ) for an accurate sample.
