I have been looking into getting a couple new walk-behind rotary spreaders and curious if anyone has any favorites? What I am looking for is something dependable and ACCURATE when it comes to applying low SGN grade granular fertilizers on greens.

    Any help is appreciated fellas

    Thank you

Andersons Accu-Pro. Very good and durable spreader.

This picture is of the Anderson's/Scott's Accu Pro 2000 spreaders applying a 40-0-0 product with an SGN of about 90. The product is blue in color, so it was very visible to see the spread pattern. No, that is not overlap.

After this application, the spreaders went in the dumpster and I got four Lesco spreaders. I prefer them anyway.

    Keith,

They went in the dumpster after many months of headaches, streaking and poorly applied material. I was even talking with a tech rep for Anderson's at the time to see if the cone was set correctly or if something else was askew. It didn't matter which of the four we used, they all spread the same. Never could get them correct. The last thing I wanted to do was spend $1,600 on new spreaders, but after this application, it was the last straw and out they went.

Are Lesco spreaders being made anymore? Are they John Deere Landscape spreaders now?

We still have Scotts Rotaries along with 1 Andersons and they seem to be working ok for us.

I went through the same thing a couple years ago when my greens wound up looking like Andy's from the AccuPro 2000. Several people suggested the Spyker, so I bought one and didn't really care for it. This year I bought an Anderson's SR-2000 and really like it. It has the stainless frame and additional opening that you can fine-tune for an even spread. I also purchased a clip on foamer from R&R and am happy with the results.

Keith, I have a couple AccuPros for you, although they might wind up as salt spreaders.

    Michael,

Go over to Meadowbrook C. C. in Northville Michigan near Detroit and ask for Bob Percy at the Inner Circle of Golf and give him those spreaders so he can bring them with him when he comes down. Just strap them on top of his BMW, Jag or whatever he is driving now. He won't mind.

    Thanks.

    Keith,

I know Bob Percy! You can't have them now.

Lesco spreaders were made by Cub Cadet before the demise of Lesco. Now you can buy the exact same spreader with a yellow hopper and a Cub Cadet logo. In my opinion, they are the standard on a golf course. Sure, other people put out fancy charts about distribution uniformity and have differnt "cone" settings for accuracy, but I have never seen any problems with the good ol' Lesco spreader.

    Don't forget to calibrate :)

Dang, I guess you really do learn something new everyday.....

Our John Deere Landscapes (Lesco) still has spreaders. Some some in there the other day.

OK, this helps to answer some questions...

We've had the Accu-Pro's since the course opened, and I'm having a hard time recalling a fert application with them that didn't have some sort of streaking going on. It was driving me insane. We'd spread on perfectly calm days, I'd check and re-check my spacing, and there we were three days later with lines on our greens. I was beginning to think that I'd forgotten how to spread fertilizer  Might be time to look into some different spreaders...

Another vote for Lesco. I also scrapped the Andersons spreaders I inherited and bought Lescos this year so they are still available.

I have seen the Cub Cadet spreaders at my Ewing branch and thought they were the same thing...I guess they are.
