We are getting a Vertidrain 7416. Wondering if anyone is using a John Deere Tractor to operate it. I have only seen a Massy or Kubota used with it my area (Chicago). Thanks for any responses.

We have a 7316 Verti Drain, and we use a John Deere 4600 with Galaxy tires. It has worked great and we have not had any problems. I recommend you use one that has a standard transmission and not one with hydrostatic transmission so that you can maintain equal ground speed.

Twenty years ago I would of highly recommended the John Deere Tractors but since then JD has seemed to go down hill and the others have gotten better. I only buy Kubotas now it seems like I get more for less money and parts are cheaper then the JD's

If you are looking for a perfect hole, then JD has a hydrostatic tractor that also has cruise control to keep at the same speed the whole time. This will allow you to aerify at one speed, then turn around for the next pass at a faster speed and return to the exact aerify speed. You will get much better holes because it will allow you to regulate your ground speed independent of the PTO speed.

What horsepower are you all looking at or have?

    Thanks!

    Jeff,

We have used a JD 5225 tractor with our verti-drain and have never had any problems in almost 10 years.

    Jeff,

We are using a JD on our vertidrain, right down the road from you in Wheaton. Our operator can do a great job of dialing the speed in but I wish it had a speedometer so we could easily put another operator or ever keep good records on proper speed. It's hydro-static with cruise control. Not sure the numbers of either piece but they run awesome! Put a speedometer on the tractor and it'd be perfect.

Now as others have mentioned I do prefer the Kubota tractors too, but I wouldn't shy away from a JD.
