Verticutting Depth Cancel The title field is required!

   For those of you using verticutting cassettes during the season, what depth do you all feel is purposeful, as well as the frequency. Also, how many of you run a broom across and how often do you do that?
   
   I've tried to stick to a 2 week verticut and topdress schedule, but with summer staff leaving, was thinking it'd be faster to run a grooming brush in front of mowers for a while this later part of summer and early fall.

   Kyle- Here at Prairie West I haven't done any verticutting, mostly because of a time and equipment issue where it wouldn't work that well for us. We brush greens once a week for sure, sometimes 2x. Pretty aggressively with the brushes all the way down, and we obviously take a lot more clippings on those days.    Kyle,
   On greens I vertical mow at a depth of 0.130" below a level surface or 0.255" below my HOC of 0.125". I follow that with a blow crew, a guy pulling a coco fiber drag mat and a mowing using groomer reels. We can pull out a lot of material at this depth. I follow that with a sand topdressing another drag with the coco fiber mat, 10 minutes of water, a mowing with brush reels and fresh cups.
   I topdress every 3 weeks but I may not vertical mow every time. I determine when that is needed by playing golf, you got to get out to manage it. If I don't vertical mow before sand topdressing I will spike and mow.

   Not sure the depth but we put a yardstick under the rear roller and lower the verticut blades until they touch the work bench. This seems pretty aggressive and visiting sales reps who happen to be out on verticut day agree. We pull up a lot of material. The baskets are full on the verticut triplex after every green as are the sand shark cutting units immediately after and there is still material left behind. A pull behind blower finishes the clean up before I apply sand and water in.
   
   We do this once a month from April through Sept. on Pennlinks over USGA mix. The bent really seems to love it.

   Thanks guys. I had wondered if I was to aggressive as well. I typically V-cut at a a negative depth equal to my mowing height: .125 for mowing, and .125 below the level for vertical mowing. I had always wondered if that was too aggressive as well, but as some of you mentioned, the grass does seem to respond well. Thanks again for any responses.

   i always used a penny to set depth. Bi-weekly except June-Aug and Dec-Jan. In CA of course
