I know there are as many ideas/schedules and patterns and opinions on this topic as people have elbows... But I will ask anyway!

If your in the camp of verticutting one direction or up and back, or really any pattern save for circle verticutting how do you determine your direction? East to west, using mowing patterns, what?

I'm verticutting 10yo eagle on USGA Spec.

Just up the road from you and we will verticut greens biweekly all summer on our Champion. East/West, then North/South. I give him a compass. We will usually do a double verticut overlapping each previous pass by 50%. In areas where I have bad patches of "contamination" I may do a little circle cut or hit it from several directions. I follow that by a backtrack double mowing and then sand topdressing. Running the units at 1/8".

We are on cool season in the transition zone, I like to verticut every two weeks, (I would like to actually go 3 weeks but since we share equipment and worry about weather interrupting along with golf schedules) during the spring, 4 times to maybe 5 times would be nice, but we end up with 3 to 4 tops depending how hot June gets. I will use mowing directions, 10 - 4 for the first one, 2 - 8 with the second one, and 6 - 12 with the third one, go back to 10 - 4 if we get a fourth one. Will repeat the process starting Sept. depending on tournament schedules for girls high school events we host. We might get two in the fall, a good fall means we did get 3 verticuttings. We are only going in about an 1/8".

We verti-cut every 2 to 3 weeks, followed by topdressing on Poa/Bent greens. We first start out 6 to 12, then 2 to 8, then 3 to 9 and 4 to 10. we keep on repeating this cycle all year round.

We V-cut as needed starting in March through October on two year old Tifeagle USGA spec. Down and back on the same pass. Different direction each time using mowing directions. One perimeter pass as needed after v-cutting the interior of the green, generally ends up being every other time. We start in March at 1/32" then progressively get deeper through the summer to depth of 1/8" and again gradually pull back as we get into the fall. Lightly top dress as needed, generally each time. Coco-mat drag in the sand then double cut two different direction with triplex mowers. Finish it all off with 3 minutes on each head. Play generally goes off behind the process within one hour. Whole process takes 4.5 hours with 6 crew members.

On our Miniverde, we go 12-6 one round and 9-3 the next... haven't seen the need to go beyond that, though all our holes are at right angles to North so...

The big thing was starting to go up and back on each pass... huge difference in the uniformity of what we were getting off of them...

Hey Curt. We V cut every other week year around up and back. The same guy does it every time and he knows to rotate 45 degrees to the left evry time he goes out. I do not verticut a cleanup lap.

    Regards,

    Steve

I am on Champion in eastern North Carolina, we vertical every week down and back same pass, do a clean up twice a month. Double cut behind verticutter and then top dress and drag in with coco mat, water 6 minutes that night and mow and roll following morning.

We go at least a 1/4" deep on poa bent in WI with carbide tip blades and remove a cushman load per green about every four weeks. so for us that is May, June, July, August and September with sometimes skipping August depending on the weather.

We rotate direction just like mowing. After the greens are cleaned up we topdress.

The golfers hate it the day of, love it the next two days and then gripe about it for the next week until fully healed.
