I have Toro 750's throughout. I am looking to start an upgrade program. The choices are:

    834s/854s series. or DT series.

Any comments on quality, price etc. would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have perfectly good bodies, but want to upgrade the internal components, the 854/855 conversion assemblies pop right in for about half the cost of replacing the entire head. We are doing exactly that now when the older 640's and 750's go bust.

Only used the DT series heads one time, on one head. I liked the nozzle adjustment it offered.

I second buying the internals unless you need part circles. The older bodies don't have the ribs inside needed so will more than likely turn like a full circle no matter what you do to adjust. They make an adapter but can be a pain to install. In that case put a whole new head in. It has helped us with water distribution as our heads are 20 years old. I see a difference. The bodies are starting to get brittle too as they are splitting at top seam under lip if a mower or cart hits them just right. Something to think about?
Best if you can negotiate buying or committing to 24,36,48 at a time for better pricing.

Has anyone upgraded Rain Bird 51's with eagle nest rotors?

    Thanks, Mel

You can buy the 855S part circle rotors with a sleeve that allows them to be used in the old smooth bodies. I have about 100 of them out there and they work fine.

I have 750's and 780's outs on greens and parts on tees. I have started to replace 780s with 855's as they fail its like $20 more for the conversion assm over the 780 PC motor, then I can get a 855 motor for like $30 if I need one, its a no brainer to do it this way. However for the 750s the motors are only $4 more for the older ones a little harder to justify a conversion assm for that.

The replacements seem to be doing much better, but our original 854's have been finding their way out of here in pieces every time we blow our system out for the winter. 30-40 in the fall and then 30-40 more in the spring when we fill. Must have been a "bad batch".

    Dave,

If you do decide to pull whole 750 heads out of the ground anytime in the future, I would be interested in purchasing those functioning heads or parts if you don't need them anymore.

    Thanks,
