   Hey all, I am looking into purchasing a few greens fans. We currently have 2-3 old Progressive 30" fans on each of the pocketed greens. I'm not satisfied with the amount of air being moved. I know the company literature states that the 50" fans will move air over 175', but I wanted to see what you all thought. Thanks in advance.

   What type of power do you have? I prefer 480v to run big fans. 230 will do it, but will probably cost you more money because it will draw higher amps. Keep the fan as low to the ground as possible to let it throw the air across the green instead of down at it and the 5hp will give you wind at 150ft. If I had to throw it 175ft, I would want a 7.5hp motor. Also, look at Precision fans. They now have a belt tensioner that will greatly reduce your maintenance time. Plus, they are powder coated aluminum that will look better longer and are easier to handle if you plan on taking them down in the winter.

   Posey said about everything there is to say. we run 480 out here on all 24 of our 50" turfbreeze fans. the 2010 models are pretty nice. they now have a grooved belt that wont slip and squeal when water gets on it. they are an upgrade over the previous years. we typically see about 130-150 feet out of the 5 hp fans, and 150+ from the 7.5 hp.

   We run ours off of 230 without any problem, and you can expect 150 to be very doable. I don't think I've ever tried to measure it at 175. All of our fans are mounted 4' above the greens surface, with a slight downward angle, and they have performed very well for us. Many of our fans are in their 6th year, and they are left out 365 days a year without covers, and run 24 hours/day from the end of May through mid-September.
