I have had to give in to triplex mowing greens this winter to try to save on budget. Until now, I have never really paid much attention to the way the units were set up. Now, I have noticed our two Toro 3150's have solid rollers that support the basket. I am using grooved rollers on the cutting unit, but it seems counter productive when there is that big roller with the weight of the basket on it in front of the unit. I have also noticed that the bentgrass tends to stick to the rear rollers whereas that never is a problem with bermuda. What is everyone's opinion on the best setup for a triplex to mow greens?

We changed out the big front roller to plastic grooved ones from R&R. Also, when the rear rollers start gathering crud, we throw on roller scrapers.

    Michael,
Roller brushes are the way to go for us anyway. We used to have to stop and clean rollers or you could spot when someone didnt take time to clean. Now we dont even have to think about it. The scrapers can have grass build up and fall off and still create a mess.

after 6500 hours on ours I have to replace all 3 front rollers because where the baskets ride is so worn down

We had the same problem with our 3150 units and a quick inexpensive fix was to attach a thread of thicker weedeater string from the roller arms against the flat rollers on front (the bucket's load bearing roller) and the rear roller. These do wear out and get loose from time to time so you need to keep your eye on them. As for the front(grooved or wiley) roller, there is a toothed scraper that will attach to the arms that lays in there quite nicely, removing excess clippings and keeping your HOC consistent. I'm not real sure where those come from though. I've never had to order them just blessed to have them.

For rear rollers I used cheap screen door springs stretched along the rollers and attached them to the frame. Last a long time.

We used to do what Terry did on our old Jacs, on our Toro we use the scrapers that came with the mower.
