So I am trying to figure out what to do about new sprinkler heads. I have a Toro irrigation and all the heads that I have are the 730 and 760 series. I am beginning to see that a lot of heads are wearing out, gears breaking, etc. and was wondering if in the process of replacing heads, should I get newer models. I like the 730s and 760s but is there another head that lasts longer, or less moving parts and less things to go wrong? I also haven't used anything besides the heads I have now and I don't know if anything else may be easier to work on should something break. Any thoughts would be great.

We get new parts here and rebuild them while still in the ground.

At $199/ea for a new Toro head, I think I'd be looking into parts. You can also get a conversion assembly for a fraction of the cost and use your existing body.

What i have been doing is saving all the broken ones and rebuilding them myself. The other things that we have is at least 50-60 heads that are totally random out there. My predecessor was trying to save money so he would buy john deere heads that I have never seen before and quite frankly are garbage. So I need to replace a bunch (not all at once) and was wondering what my best choice would be.

I do use sportsturfirrigation and they have been great. Their rebuilds seem to hold up even though I have found quite a few that are rebuilt wrong so the adjustments are backwards. Other than that no problems whatsoever.

If you just replacing the rotor (guts) and the shells or cases are fine, I have been buying conversion assemblies (new 855s in my case 835s in yours) new guts and you are getting a better head (adjustable and more efficient) Just make sure when you change these heads out you update the computer especially if you water off ET.

We have mostly Toro 670's on our course and we have been switching to the DT series using the conversions. Its cheaper to buy the conversion assemblies than buying the parts for the 670's. Our toro vendor has a deal were you buy 5 assemblies and get a 6th free so we get 6 at a time.

If you can find 700 series parts buy what you can now. Toro has discontinued manufacturing this series and our local dealer has very few parts left in stock. Sportsturf is great to work with and have plenty of 700 components available, but have seen costs increasing as Toro's supply is depleted. The DT conversion kits are a good option and are actually cheaper than motors for the 700's. Good luck
