Due to a medical issue I could not be at work for 3 months+... I just returned to work 10 days ago. In the meantime, my 1995 Smithco 3000 sprayer had died, and I was given a small choice between a Deere 200 gal, or the 1750...

Choice became the Toro due to various reasons I'm not going to get into here....

    Questions I have are:

    1. Can you spray in 2nd gear?
    2. Do you have to recalibrate the sprayer after each nozzle change, IE blue to white nozzles? Does this mean resetting the bypass valves also?
    3. Do you have issues spraying the course at 3.5 mph versus 5.0+ mph. 26 acres of fairways will take a while....
    4. Are there any issues of use that I need to know about?
    5. Is anyone using for fairways at night?
    6. What GPA are you using this machine at?

    Thanks in advance.

I will try my best based off of my experience with a 1250 and 5800
    1. Can you spray in 2nd gear?
If you want to. I like to spray with the throttle wide open, so greens in 1st other stuff in 2nd or 3rd.
    2. Do you have to recalibrate the sprayer after each nozzle change, IE blue to white nozzles? Does this mean resetting the bypass valves also?
The computer should give you the rate, if you trust it. I would manually calibrate until I trusted it and with any application your job depends on after that. You will need to re calibrate the bypass valves to make it spray the same rate without all the booms on any time you change nozzles or rates. Not a big deal if you are going to be spraying with all three booms on all the time.
    3. Do you have issues spraying the course at 3.5 mph versus 5.0+ mph. 26 acres of fairways will take a while....
It would take a while! Spray at whatever speed you are comfortable while being able to get the rate you want.
    4. Are there any issues of use that I need to know about?
Can't help you with this one.
    5. Is anyone using for fairways at night?
Don't see why you couldn't. You can always add supplemental LED lighting if needed.
    6. What GPA are you using this machine at?
I spray my greens at 90GPA, 1st gear. My fairways are either 20GPA or 40GPA 2nd or 3rd gear.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. yes. When we have sprayed fairways we have sprayed in 2nd gear, 5.9mph at 45pga
    2. "have to"...no. Should you...probably. If you are pressed for time, just go with it, then over winter, you can recalibrate
    3. Like i said we have done it at 5.9mph
    4. We had some issues with the throttle pedal in the beginning, you had to raise it up with your foot in order to start the machine, or engage the pump. This machine is nice and light on your greens and will handle severe undulations quite well. You will need to kick the agitator off when you get below 50 gals, the amount varies, but watch your gpa when you near that point, it will steadily drop as the liquid levels drop, simply turn the agitator off, and the gpa kicks back up, adjust accordingly, finish your spray. The clean rinse tank, if you have that feature, is awesome, you get a great head start on washing out the tank.
    5. Going to equip the rear of the sprayer with led's this winter, we dont spray at "night" but we do an hour or so before first light
    6. I spray Greens at 80-82gpa, first gear full throttle. I'm sure everyone does something different, but for our application this works quite well.

    Same as others mentioned above....

Only issues we had was the alternator doesn't provide enough amps if you are installing halogen lights. We had constant trouble with ours killing the battery when spraying in the dark. I would recommend using LED's when you add additional lights. The other issue is the gear shifter on our models (2005 and 2006) would constantly hang up and stick making shifting hard. Otherwise, keep the computer dry and you won't have to spend $1,800 for replacement. Keep a pump repair kit and pressure dampener in stock. These will go out often if you use the sprayer frequently.

We returned our 1750 for a 5800. You either spray at 3.5mph or 5mph. There is no in between. They need to make a mini 5800. I tried to like it but couldn't.
