Too Early for Drive in Northeast Cancel The title field is required!

   Hello
   Having some crabgrass issues in Connecticut. One salesman recommends I wait on Drive application as he says it works better later in the year. Any comments on this. Will I not get as good of control if I use it now?

   I sprayed drive a couple of times already, took out the crab. I would imagine if you go in august to use acclaim and get the goose as well.

   When I was in Northern Indiana which I felt was similar in temps to Northern NJ where I was at before Indiana, we used to use Drive if needed in June and up to the middle of July depending on temperatures, I was told in the dog days of summer it wouldn't work as well.
   
   I have used in the transition zone in the summer on bermuda when we would get a couple 3 days in a row staying in the mid 80's.

   I would find another salesman. That is the exact opposite of what UMD research shows. Smaller plants are easier to control. Just make sure you have good soil moisture. All I can figure is that he thinks spraying early would require another application later to clean up plants that germinate late after the first app. Kenneth Ingram, UMD

   Sounds like you are a week or two ahead of me as i am up in the hills. I usually dont really start to see it until mid july.
   
   I typically go out in late July/ early august with drive. Adequete soil moisture is key as im sure you know.
   
   Quinclorac works better at differnet stages. I honestly cant remember which tiller stage works best. If i do remember correctly it isnt effective at the 4-5 tiller stage??? Perhaps someone else will chime in.
   
   Anyhow i just go out with a backpack sprayer and some methleyated seed oil.... It doesnt stand a chance.
