We have Zoysia Matrella putting greens being mowed at 2.5mm and they are perfect except for TERMITES! Anybody out there have any suggestions on how to get rid of these things? They can do MASSIVE damage overnight.... I have tried just about all the run of the mill chemicals and about the only thing that does any good is Furadan.

All comments and suggestions are appreciated.

Termidor, which contains firpronil, is what is used in and around buildings for Termite control. Since we can't use Termidor, I would suggest looking at Top Choice, which also contains fipronil but at a lower concentration.

I think some forumations of Bifenthrin (Talstar) are labeled for termites as well.

Andy got it. Top choice at the highest label rate. It will kill them, but may not have the residual Termidor does. Termidor has a high concentration because it is usually injected or sprayed at a very high rate on bare ground before a slab installation.

Any rate of Termidor (9.1% ai) is high compared to Top Choice (.0143% ai) = 636x!

Thanks for the replies guys, I wished you would have mentioned something other than fipronil... We have tried a product called Isoptex 5SC which contains 5% fipronil. It's not doing much good.. I am wondering if maybe the Termidor (traps and baits) strategically placed around the perimeter of the collar may help? Im desperate I have never seen anything like this. They can destroy large areas eating everything in site and leaving the bare ground exposed.... Feel free and thanks for teh comments....!

I did mention Talstar and it does do a good job with termites.

You may look into your local pesticide company that the companies buy for residential spraying. years back I had purchased many items from them and all I needed was my pesticide license to buy from them. I purchased some Durasban TC from one company a few years back and use it for my own home to control termites. While some of these chemicals may be labled for residential I see no reason you cannot use it on a golf course.

Because if you use a pesticide contrary to the label you are breaking the law. Talstar S and Talstar P are the same exact thing...except for the label and areas you can use it.

I did not say they could use it, because I know the label is the law, but being labeled for Residential use may allow it to be used on a golf course. It would be something to check out. I know you can not use chemicals that are labeled for golf courses on residential properties because residential has much more restrictions due to the possibilities of small children and pets getting into them.

Should have mentioned I am in the Philippines so not too many pesticide restrictions here..... I will take some pictures and post the damage. I thought the same thing, "termites"????? No way but they are the culprit....

If pesticide restrictions are not a factor then Termidor is the best choice......without question.

I would get the termites properly Identified (there are a few different sorts of termites). I would then review life cycles (mating habits) then consider the best way to deal with them. Don't forget to follow up especially if your situation is an area that is has old dwellings or infrastructure surrounding it. Last thing depending on the type of beast you have do not neglect treatment for the ants (smart little bugs they are). Those ants will capitalize some how (termite casting and exoskeletons are protein forms that certain ants actually promote so that they can feed on).
