Hello, Has anybody ever used or seen physical filtration for heads and piping clogging with carbonate precipitate? This course acidifies to 7 pH but clouds of precipitate from holding lake pour through the system and still clog heads. Intake pipe before acid is 50% closed by end of irrigation season with precipitate. The heads have about .5 kilos of precipitate and have to be cleaned regularly.

    Thanks Michael

Is acidification of the lake an option? Treat the source before the water enters your irrigation system. We had a problem with heads clogging while on a water source with a ph of 8.9, high Na and low Ca. I was adding gypsum to the lake to treat the Na but over time our system began to clog with CaCO3 precipitate. The problem went away when we found another aquafier with a water ph of 5.2

    Hi Stephen,

This is for a friend´s course. He treats to 7.2 or so but the analysis says you should go to about 6.9 to get firmly below the pHc point.

His intake pipe gets clogged to about 50% at end of irrigation season and it seems that clumps break off during season and clog his heads. He cannot get approval from municipality to treat intake lake as it is too close to housing???

Thanks for your reply. I found a 5 pH water supply for a client in Cornwall that ended up providing 15% of their annual demand. It ran through granite.
