Finished the new Orange tee locations for the fourth of July. As we head into Labor Day Weekend the results are just starting to show.

Yes, I am the proud owner of 7 sets of tee markers on our course. From Front to back...Yellow, Orange, Gold, Green, White, Blue, Black. Yup, that is seven. Since we have added the seventh and changed Red to Gold we are seeing some results and favorable comments. Older players that were playing the green are moving to the Gold. Senior women are thrilled with the new Orange tees. The adult/junior league is growing and the kids use the yellow. Since this is the first year. I am curious how many more players will move up to shorter tees to have a shot at a birdie more often?

Anyone out there have more than Seven Sets?

I just hope you don't have too many color blind golfers.

In the fifteen years on our course play has gone from almost null on the senior tees to almost 80% utilization for weekday play. I had the course remarked several years ago with the yellow tees moved forward to the ladies tee boxes and created a composite course using both yellow/white and white/blue combinations, which has been very popular. On another noteI moved one set of yellows back last week and almost immediately heard some disgruntlement.

We have 7 on our par 3's because we have 2 alternates on each. We actually have 8 on our 7th hole because we added one for distance. 5 originally on all the other holes but down to 4 due to turf reduction.

Work in a county system where one of the courses had the standard 3 markers (red, white, blue). One of the frequent players thought there should be a gold set as he was maturing in age and felt the whites were too long, but refused to play the reds. Super's solution was to paint the tee balls half red and half yellow. The players loved it.

So just to clarify, the yellow tees are the same markers as the reds and in the same position, but people who would not play from the reds will play from the yellows; which again, are in the exact same place and share the same marker. I guess if I really understood it I would have a doctorate in another field and make a lot more money.

From the back, Black, Blue, White, Silver, Red, Family tee Yellow, Family Tee Blue. The family tees are new this year and most are on the edge of the fairway mowed into the first cut. For those we do not use tee markers but have a yellow or blue pvc stem marking flag next to the US Kids family course plaque. The person changing cups replaces a couple flags per week that get mowed up or pulled out.

This year we only have black tee markers on holes 1, 10, 19 with a sign saying feel free to play the black tees without tee markers. It just was not worth moving every day for a couple golfers a week.

In 1996 the blues were the most used followed by the white but when we added the silver in 2000 most players shifted up one set and now the silver and white are most popular.

It gets to be a lot of tee pads to mow and maintain.
