I am about to begin sulphur burning my irrigation pond which also doubles as a waterhazard for our 17th & 18th holes. The pond is rather large at approx. 8 million gallons. The question I have is can I keep up with the sulphur burning so to make a difference. Aesthetically I need to keep the pond at a reasonable height so filling occurs once a week with water near 8.0 ph. I tried for a month last year and did not see a difference in ph. Any advice would be much appreciated as I think this would be a great tool to have running.

I use a sulfur burner 3 days a week about 400 lbs of %99.9 sulfur. My lake is 8 million gal. My pH on incoming water is 8.8 to 9.0 pH and I pump onto course at 6.5 to 7.0 pH in the summer I will use 3 million per month and get a little over 2 million per month from the local treatment plant. By Aug my lake is down maybe 1 meter but looks great even down. We have 0% floating algae now and for the last 3 seasons. Turf quality is also better with proper pH.

Hi Keith and Tony, How many milliequivalents of total carbonates do you have? Tony, how much water do you use per month? Two waters with same pH can require very different quantities of sulfur to reach target pH.

With this and a target pH I can tell Tony how much sulfur he needs to burn. Circulation is key factor as well.
