Tried the search, but must have been in the old forums. I know people were having trouble with the smarty reflectors seizing to the threads on top of the flag sticks. What was the solution to this? I have tried regular anti seize, but it didn't help much.

Stay away from the anti-seize. Shop grease or even petroleum jelly.

We just put all new ones on and used anti seize. I guess I have to go out now and put grease on them!

Ours all stuck to the poles. We bought the poles with the reflectors in the pole.

I was going to do that too, but at $76 a pop, and I'd have to buy 78 of them....the $25 smarties was the better option.

Try Teflon tape, or non hardening pipe dope with Teflon.

    Personally I like the tape.

Turns out that Metallurgy 101 states Brass and Aluminum aren't compatible.....they bond. You would think that the company would have known this. I'm trying to get my money back for the reflectors since I wasn't able to reuse them after they bonded to the old sticks. At $35 each, that added up pretty quick.

I have used regular anti-seize, and just twist them off and back on once every couple of weeks. It only takes about 5 seconds each, if you just have the guy changing cups do it.

If this many people have had this problem it is an issue. I played golf before I got hurt and had a handicap under 10. Do you really need Smarties, 150 markers, yardage on sprinkler heads and GPS? When I played I just hit it to the hole regardless of the club I was using.

Not everything is about you Scott. Geez, go find a video. [size=50">(sarcasm intended)[/size">

I don't want to know why you had petroleum jelly in your cart :) Teflon seems reasonable. I know there are several types of anti seize, maybe I will try a few. I found a bottle of astroglide on the course a few months ago, I should have given that a try before I threw it away :)

Does astroglide work as "long ball grease" as referenced in the movie Dead Solid Perfect?

I complained about this for years and was told no one else ever did. We had the reflectors and the colored flags so we were taking the reflector off every other day. It was amazing how one or two could glue together so fast. If we hadn't sold a number of our customers the laser guns I would have just dropped the reflectors.

After two years of wasting money on reflectors and new tops for the poles we went to the poles with prisms in the center this year. So far so good but they need to last 8 years at that price.

We use the sticks that have the prisms embedded in them and we replace them every other year. I don't know how well publicized it is, but if you deal directly with laser link instead of buying from Par Aide, you can send the old prisms back and get a $15 rebate per reflector. I don't know if the smarty rebate is the same, but you will get something back if you send the damaged ones back.

I would definitely bring the issue to Laser Link. I never used them but I know My flag sticks are Aluminum Male ends, so I'm guessing the reflector has a brass insert? I do believe there is a Galvanic Corrosion happening . You could try a 3rd metal interface....Like a coupling Male to female of another metal like galvanized since it has zinc.
Here is a link for metal coating. Hope that might help :D

Antiseize works great for us. After having to cut off my last set I looked at the embedded sticks, realized they are hideous and outrageously expensive and bought more smarty's. Standard is working on a reflector that will have plastic threads, just like the acorn nut. Just a matter of time now....

I would be great if the company making the smarty's could make a brass glue on screw for the flagstick. We change out the bottom ferruls all of the time with no issues.
