What are other's thoughts on Secure? How has it worked thus far and so on?

The label rate of .5 oz/M is good for 14 days. We got 12. Applied with plenty of water, over 2 gal/M. Don't get me wrong, 12 days is great for a contact but curious if anyone else has similar experiences.

I was wondering the same thing, one of our other city courses is using it and he has been pleased, but I thought he had mentioned he was getting longer control, maybe he was through this spring?

I wonder what the cost per acre is too, it might work mid-summer for me as a rotation with Daconil Action which is what the label suggests, as I'm going out at anywhere between 7 and 10 days during the summer with my Primo following the 200 gdd program.

I do know the only dollar spot I have seen this year was a week ago Wednesday (actually saw it the prior Monday the 17th of June, I had made a preventive application with Primo on June 15th with 3336 plus at 2 oz/1000 (lowest rate) but then had a deluge of rain about 2 1/2 hours after application, (we are talking over an inch of rain in about an hour, some parts of the city were getting up to 9 inches in 2 hours, we had at home 6 miles south 3.25" in an hour and half). The next day was rainy and cloudy also that Monday was cloudy, So I went down with a Daconil Ultrex application on that Wednesday the 19th and have been clean so far. Did make my Primo application again this past Sunday without a fungicide and will make another Primo application (if the forecast holds) this Sunday morning but with a fungicide application.

I try to look at cost per acre, and cost per day with fungicides but also making sure they work too. We have had dollar spot in the past be an issue, so I try to avoid it when possible, we were clean last year and except for those few spots on a few greens last week, we've been clean this year.

    Thanks!

    Clay,

We only got 7 days of $Spot control on a Dac Ultrex app at 3.8 oz/M on fwys!! I think the pressure in the Chicago area has broken through on almost every app down!! Although our greens and tees remain clean. Greens were Triton FLO about a week ago and Tees were Dac Ultrex at 4 oz/M.

I will agree the pressure has been high - and I think anything giving more than 10 days control is great. With the warm humid and wet conditions we've had here.

I have used Syngenta products on fairways/tees all year for fungicide control with a couple BASF products early in the season. Have been on a 3-4 week spraying schedule, based on weather allowing applications, with no signs of any disease. We had battled dollar spot ALL season last year on fairways. We bumped up the fertility this year on fairways and believe that has made a huge difference coupled with the fungicide products we have used. We applied 1# N/m of Nature Safe 27-0-2 in mid March and 2# N/m of Duration (120 day) 42-0-0 after Memorial Day.

    April 11--Dac Action-2oz/m, Curalan-1oz/m
    May 10--Dac Action-2oz/m, Emerald-.18oz/m
    May 30--Secure-.5oz/m, Banner-1oz/m
    June 20--Dac Action-2oz/m, Briskway-.5oz/m

Extremely happy with the results so far. Bumping up the N early and getting out before having any dollar spot infection has been a tremendous help with keeping the fairways and tees clean so far this year, knock on wood.

The only other difference from this year to last year is we are spraying Legacy @ 10 oz/a based on GDD. We have used the 0 degree Celsius model and are making applications at 100-200 GDD. Not sure if this is helping also but it has made the fairway mowers happy with the amount of times they have to empty buckets.

If we can stick to our schedule we will hopefully be able to make 4 less applications on fairways to get us through the season which will save us a good chunk of money. This is our first year using Dac Action and Secure and have had great results along with the other products used. July through August will be the real test.

    Kevin,

Great post, I wonder if there are other practices you might have changed too? I have heard that getting out early on fairways and making an application before dollar spot was seen had been helping in the upper midwest as early as 10 to 11 years ago, wanted to try it myself at my previous course because we would only have one application in our budget for fairway fungicide treatment, was always waiting until we saw it and then it was too late, (of course now with bermuda fairways, I didn't get to try). I wonder have you always dragged dew before? Using wetting agents? Is that part of your current program as well? Was it part of your past programs too?

    Thanks!

    Mel,

We do not drag fairways. We cut them 3x/week with buckets and tees are cut 2-3x/week also. We are using a new wetting agent on fairways and tees. We have gone to spraying Dispatch bi-weekly at the 16oz/A rate and Matador wetting agent at 2oz/m once a month. Both products do not have to be watered in right away so this saves us from spinning heads with member play and we water in during the night. Last year we only sprayed the Matador on fairways/tees once per month. Also all of our sprays are made at 40 GPA on fairways/75 GPA on tees and we are spraying 24 A of fairways and 4 A of tees.

We made it through the wettest June on record at just about 8" of rain with some 90's in the last 1/3 of the month and fairways/tees have minimal LDS and no disease infection.

One other change that was made going into this season was changing out our nozzles on the sprayer. We went from a flat fan to the Turbo TeeJet Duo. The coverage is awesome!!!

I would like to believe that all of our changes to our program and our plan of attack has helped us with keeping the fairways clean. Getting out ahead of the disease pressure, bumping up fertility early, changing nozzles, having another contact fungicide to use and rotate every spray has made all the difference. Very happy to have Secure as another contact fungicide. Pleased with it so far.

I Have found with secure another fungicide that I have gained confidence in the jury is still out but I believe it will save me $ by the end of the season. The disease pressure is not as bad as mid west but in MA We have had are share of rain and humidity was not able to spray my greens one week due to rain events and greens went 21 days before next rotational spray felt my turf canopy remained healthy I guess like all new products will take couple years of use before jury returns with verdict but looks very promising also have had great control of bluegrass weevil. with conserve the last 2 seasons.

i think 2oz/1000 may be a bit too high for a contact, am I wrong?

Quick question for those using Secure,

Any tank mix issues with fertility products? Specifically Gary's Green and Sili-Kal-B, or CPR?

    Thanks

    Mel,

I haven't had any issues mixing Secure with anything that I have used. The only thing I was advised of, was mixing Secure with Banner. It will turn the tank mix orange to red in color but doesn't affect anything. Also if your water pH is off you will have the same affect. Just had 24 days of control with Secure and Torque on tees and fairways at the labeled rates. Still liking it!
