Is there a quality difference between Toro OEM parts and R&R? Leave price out of it. We have three year old fleet of Toro.

    Thanks

I have had some issues in the past with the welds on their reels not holding up. Each time R&R has warranted, but the labor to change it out was not worth the price savings. That being said, we have found that most items are comparable in quality and do afford a definite price savings.

The exception to this is aerification tines. Bought two sets and couldn't get them to pull a core. Sent them back for a full refund. Not worth trying again and finding out the first day you are closed that you need to find a plan B ASAP.

I find that interesting about the aerifier tines. All I ever use are R&R tines and have never had a problem. As far as other parts I think they are of comparable quality(maybe ever so slightly less quality but negligible) and definitely cheaper. I've used reel stock, bed knives, roller and reel bearings, full rollers, and a number of other items.

My experience with R&R is that you get what you pay for.

I have 6 of their triplexes and absolutely love them! No issues at all and nearly half the price of the Toro its no contest.

All the major components are from the same manufacturer that toro uses, the reels are r&r and they have held up well for our use on T-C-A's

Been using R&R tines for many years, never had an issue. Have not used any of their reel parts though.

I hope Furman's not offended. I really do like that name.

Thanks for input. The situation is that the mechanic´s brother is the R&R dealer. Toro have reduced their prices to same or a little less than the R%R so that they get our business and make something instead of nothing.

Is there sufficient quality difference worth taking the business away from family?

    Thanks Michael

    Michael,

I use R&R parts for a lot of our John Deere and Toro equipment but it really depends on the part. I have not found a significant quality difference that justified spending more but we generally compare prices and R&R is not always cheaper. When it comes to aerifier tines we generally buy R&R because the price and quality have never been a issue for us.

Many years ago (20+) I attended a conference and learned that R&R actually made OEM parts for Toro and Jacobsen. That may have changed.

Late to this discussion since moving overseas, but wanted to add a point:

Twice in the last two years I had to return items to R&R because they did not fit. We were rebuilding some 3100-D reels as well as some of the old pull frame reels. The taper on some bearings/reels were off as well as the reel was about 1/8" too small. We replaced the items with Toro OEM and it all fit as normal. I like R&R but I think their replacement items are hit or miss more recently.
