We are about to start a new irrigation installation. We are going to put the new Rainbird IC system in. My question is, has anyone else had problems with the installation of the new system? And is it more Rainbird's problem or contractor installation. If Rainbird, what have they done for you to help solve the problem. Thanks for all your help.

We have a two year old Rain Bird decoder system and I believe installation is the same. I have not had any problems with my system at all. My irrigation designer/consultant emphasized proper installation with these systems. He was getting into a lot of holes and checking the splices and the wires everywhere he could see them. He said if the system is installed correctly you will have no problems at all and if they do a poor job with the wiring, then there will be problems. It is solely based on the installation. The Rain Bird stuff is working flawless

Does anyone have the Rainbird IC System? If so, do you have any comments on it? Has it worked well for you?

It is a great system and easy to install. The single head control is great for water management. We are currently installing it nine holes a year and are now in our last stage. Trouble shooting any problems are a breeze. It is also a lot cheaper than your standard satellite system.

Thanks for the response Dean. Have you had many issues with modules and/or voltages? We are in the final 9 holes of renovation. We have numerous heads on all 27 holes that dont work. We replace the module on those heads and some of them work for awhile or some of them stop working after a little bit. Seems like we have a faulty wire. And as far as troubleshooting goes, it has been difficult to find exactly where the problem is.

Are you able to test the heads from the central and get a good readings? We had an issue with a few heads that we were told to remove the icm and take out the plunger. Rainbird told us to clean it with clean water and put all of it back together. Have you been told this?

Not that I know of. We are usually told to just replace the module. We test our voltages and our pass/fail daily. Our voltages are usually consistent day to day. However they do range significantly. Some holes may read a consistent 22 while others read a consistent 36. From what we are told, a normal "good" voltage should be between 26-28. We have many holes that read this but sometimes the head still doesnt work. Lately we have been having experiencing another problem. We turn our greens heads on to water in some fertilizer and some heads will turn on and some wont, so we shut them off and then turn them on again and they usually all come on. Have you ever had that problem? Its not a huge deal since they do work but it can be a pain when you are in a hurry to get things watered.

We just awarded the contract to renovate our irrigation system, and we will be installing the Rainbird IC system. Following the posts in this thread, is it safe to assume there are a number of kinks still to be worked out with the IC, but troubleshooting is relatively easy? Anything I should look out for or expect as our new IC system is installed and next summer becomes operational?
