I have a transfer pump that just kicked the bucket. The current pump is a very old irrigation pump that has been on property for thirty years. I need to replace but have some questions about head pressure. When this pump was moved to its current location 15 years ago about 300 feet of 3 inch pvc was installed and then joined to 900 feet of 6 inch pvc that travels up a hill about 60-75 feet. My question is how much does the increase in pipe size affect the head pressure/head height.
Currently looking at a 10hp centrifugal pump with 3 inch inlet and 2 inch outlet at possible 340 GPM at 80 feet of head. Just wondering how much the larger pipe will decrease flow. Any comments or concerns are appreciated.
