I have used proxy/primo with good success at another facility. I have been at my club since June and want to use it because of the large amount of poa on our old greens. I have been away from the product for a few years and have a few reminder questions. I am in the transition zone. When are you guys timing your first app? Is early March too soon? Does anyone spray it on Penn Links bent? How many apps. do you make and how far apart? I know I am already seeing seed heads and it is still Feb. Any input on your programs would be great. Thanks.

    Jeff,

For timing data check out http://www.gddtracker.net . Ron Calhoun developed these GDD models when he was still at Michigan State. Simply plug in your zip code and then you can select a model on the right side of the map. The model will show you graphically on the map when you are nearing, inside, or past the appkication window.

We only use Primo/Proxy on select areas, but not on greens, with apps two weeks apart. These models have been fairly accurate except for last year when we had 80 degree temps in March.

    I hope this helps.

    Jeff:

Penn Links and Penn Links II is slightly susceptible to discoloration but I have used the attached to rate and time applications at two courses in the transition zone.

    Jeff:
The timing for Proxy/Primo application in the spring is pretty forgiving. The timing is more critical if you are planning on only one application. The model @ GDDTrakcer will indicate a window of time that should be appropriate. However, don't let the model dictate your behavior. It's a tool, not a law. I like to use the following criteria (where both are true).....Greens are 100% and you have mowed at least twice and you are within the target zone indication by the GDD model. If you are only planning on one application, then I would try to wait toward the middle to later portion of the GDD window.

I have older pushup style greens and have found that I can avoid discoloration by adding 2oz/m of iron to the mix. I also add a true foliar (macrosorb) which improves uptake.

I am in Northern VA (Locust Grove). Just this morning I have found larger Poa plants with seedheads just starting to emerge in the boot. These plants are up against our maintenence facility where it is warmer. I plan to spray this Monday the 25th with Proxy/Primo at 5oz/M Proxy, 5 oz/A Primo. I will spray 3 apps 3 weeks apart with a light rate of foliars and micros. I have push-ups with 85% Poa/15% Bent. I hope this helps....
