Hi all, I have never used proxy and would like to try and integrate into our program for poa seed heads. I know there have been some older posts on here but would like some more opinions. What rates are you using? Any good growing degree calculators? Every program uses Primo, but what about Trimmit with Proxy? How much discoloration should be expected if any? Any other comments? Older Pencross greens in southeast NE. Thanks!

    Matt,

Proxy/Primo works great if your timing is spot on. I go early to be safe. I am in Southern Indiana. My first app. goes out in late March. I make 3 apps. 5oz. Proxy with .125 oz. primo, 4oz. Proxy with .125 oz. primo, 3oz. Proxy with .125 oz. primo. Three weeks apart. Regulates well but the color stays green. Hope this helps.

I do three apps of 5 oz proxy .125 primo and make sure you add Iron. I use Michigan states GDD app, watch Forsythia bloom, and also as soon as I see a seed head in the shoot of taller Poa is when I make my first application. Seems to work good. You have to remember it's suppression and not elimination.

We tried proxy/primo combination for seed head control this past year and went with the 3 apps as well. It did great for the seed heads but it also caused us a lot of headache for the first half of the season. We got stemmy elongation from the proxy. It really hurt us from the start as we had a scalp look to the turf, and were forced to keep our mowing heights higher then we wanted for awhile til we got past it. Needless to say we won't be likely using it again(might try skipping 3rd app) because it set us back the whole year, and felt like we had to baby them. But that's not to say I'm recommending to not use it, as I know many who have and never had this problem. I'd just be careful, and maybe try it one year and see if you have any problems.

I have had good luck with proxy primo on greens with one or two apps. We do not get 100% control especially at the one app but it is better than a full flush of poa seedheads. The first app is based on a combination of early seedheads, GDD from our weather station and experience based on when the weather works out to spray.

At our course in Wisconsin the proxy dings the rough pretty good so we try not to spray past the collar too much.

Two sprays using GDD tracker. 5 & .125 Proxy/Primo. I spray around 225-250- gdd depending upon how warm it is going to be. I've been told it does take proxy a few days longer to get into the plant. 21 days apart. My greens are also under regulation at that time from Trimmit as well from the winter. One of the things that research folks have mentioned is to continue on with sand topdressing program as much as possible to reduce scalping. I would also continue with regulation, I'm usually throwing Primo in during heat of the summer but in your cooler climate you could use lower rates of Trimmit or Cutless in combo with Primo.
