I have started applying Primo this season. I noticed that on the label it states not to apply within 2 weeks of an aeration.
Has anybody applied within 2 weeks of a aeration and was there any adverse effects?
Is planet air slicing considered aeration?

    Thanks

I generally apply on a three to four week schedule regardless of the aerification. I have sprayed it the week before aerifying my greens with no issues but this last aerification was pushed back a week due to my pump station going down and I sprayed them the day after we aerifyed the greens along with fungicide and micro's, Big mistake! My greens looked like they shut down for a week. I will never do that again but there was no real damage other then taking longer to heal over. Spraying a week before should not give you a problem at least on TifEagle Greens, I do not know what northern grasses will do.

Are we talking greens, tees or fairways? On the greens I go 3oz/A weekly regardless of cultural practices on my TifEagle. Fairways I try to time out a little better and have major maintenance (aerification, verticutting) fall in two to three weeks after applications. The 419 gets 8 oz May and June, 10oz July, August and September.

We don't apply the week after aerification simply due to not wanting to put the sprayer on recently softened greens. But, will spray the Friday before.

No issue on fairways and think it actually helps as it limits that much more debris to clean up after the fact.

I'm with Andy, we do the same and for similar reasons.

We usually skip the Primo app before aerification and resume it once the greens have fully recovered. Two reasons:

First, we try to take advantage of the 'rebound effect', the growth spurt seen when the Primo wears off. I feel this can only help the recovery from aerifying.

Second, we spray Primo year round here. Some supers have reported that over time, Primo rates need to be increased to achieve the same level of suppression. My thinking is taking a break during aerifying will 'reset' the Primo apps back to day 1. Not really sure if this is happening, but it works for us.

In addition to this question, what is your recovery time w/ primo, w/o primo, tine size, and what are your rates for pre and post fertilizer? I too have tried to take advantage of the "rebound effect", but it doesn't seem to increase recovery time and only creates slow and bumpy green. I even limited my fert rate to .3#N/m prior to aerification......did my Verde-Cal and Pro-Mag, and the greens were brutally slow after about 4 days following aerification. They rolled better and smoother for the 2 days following aerification. 3 weeks it took before I felt "pretty good" about recovery. Is it better to keep the primo on them and be able to increase the fertility rates? Also, how much fertilizer with each aerification before you say, "well, I probably just negated my aerification with the amount of Nitrogen I put on them for recovery." Just interested, thanks!

We skip the Primo app before aerifying and fertilize with 21-0-0 @ .6 lbs N on the Thursday before aeration. We have Salam Paspalum greens. Our usual procedure:
Scarify (deep verticut) 2 directions at 3/8 - 1/2" deep.
    Mow
    Aerify with 1/2" hollow tines.
    Apply micros/dolomite etc.
    Topdress
    Drag
    Vibratory Roller
    Water

Next day we brush and roll the greens. The additional brushing the following day takes any bumpiness out of the greens. By Friday the greens are rolling nice and smooth, though a little slow as the HOC is still a little above our normal HOC. Looking at the greens, one can see we did aerify recently though most golfers are surprised when I explain that the aerifying was on Monday, only 4 days previous and not the preceding week. By the following weekend, nary a one of our golfers can tell that we aerified.

I attribute the fast recovery to the pre-aerification 21-0-0 app and stopping the Primo apps. We will usually restart the Primo the week following the aerification. This method works really well for us.

    Cheers.

My method is similar to jim's. Our greens are dominant plus bentgrass. Stop Primo about two weeks out, spray 21-0-0 about 3 days prior to aeration. Verticut 2x, then aerate, topdress and broom sand in. Raise mowing height from .125 to .140. Apply gypsum, 0-0-50, Pro-Mag, and 10-4-16 at .25lbs N/1000sf. Roll for two days then start mowing. Drop heights daily .005 until back to normal. Healing time is about 14 days. Start Primo again.
