For those who were affected by ice damage last winter, what are you doing or have done in the past to prep for the coming winter? Sod cutting to channel water away from the greens, planned snow removal, planned applications of black sand or the like, etc.? One of our biggest hurdles is getting thru the snow to remove snow from the greens.

It's kinda like the shaved ice you get at the beach.....minus the fruity syrup.....or so i've heard.

After the winter last year... I would have tried the fruity syrup to melt the snow and ice....

Thinking about putting down a heavier layer of sand before any hard freeze. Possibly even more in spots that took on a lot of desiccation from wind. Hoping it will act as the "blanket" when putting them to bed. Should also protect the crown from the limited play we have through the winter months. A few things noted from last winter... Poa in these wind blown areas checked out and the bent came on slow but thrived. So I would call that a win. I consider the turf lucky that it did not have a long period of drought / heat stress. Root systems were pretty shallow this year and mother nature took it fairly easy on us, another win. Knock out roses took the worst hit in the landscape and I may consider covering them in high visibility areas.
