We had the same problem a couple years ago. I made a change to our system so we only have one flag, and not the red, white, blue we did before. Now, all greens have the same flag, but we still follow the red (front), white (middle), and blue (back) system. We do this by using color system on score cards. On the score card, above each hole number is a circle broken into thirds with with gold, white, and green, same concept of red, white, and blue. It is still simple for the cup cutters because we still follow the front, middle, back system. Leading to number 1 and 10 tee, we have posts that we hang blocks from that are painted gold, white, and green, and we just hang the specific color for the members to know which color the pin placement is and they can look on their scorecard and it will tell them where the flag is positioned. It has actually been a great system and only had a couple people not care for it when first done. It may sound confusing, but it is actually a simple thing to do. I can send pics of the scorecard if you would like.
