For those of you managing ultradwarf greens, what products/methods are you using for winter color? We just grew in our bermuda this summer, and this will be my first winter managing dormant putting surfaces. Any tips or advice appreciated!

Lots of pigments to choose from - Foursome, Par, Enudrant TE, Envy, Green Pig, Sarge, TurfScreen Dormant.....you may find that any of these, applied weekly at a lower rate(8ozs/ac) is sufficient to keep your turf green. We maintain our foliar sprays throughout the winter months and will put in a pigment if we feel we need it. Keep your minor nutrients up, especially Mn, Mg and Fe. Black topdressing when you are experiencing a warm spell helps get soil temps up and get the turf to stay green.

I think you are going to find that your greens will never look better come next spring. I haven't overseeded in a few years and my Nematode and transition issues disappeared. Keep a vigilant eye on high traffic points where players tend to enter/exit a green complex and use ropes to rotate where they can walk-on.

    Heath,

You might check the Greens Section... Brian Whitlark with the Southwest has some good stuff on there with trials performed at Phoenix Country Club. A couple of them looked really good when I saw them a couple of years ago...

This will be our second year of not overseeding greens. We have played around with quite a few of the pigments/paints. Par plus, Greenlawnger, Transition HC are the three that have worked well with us. Rates and timings will vary depending on your goals. The frequency of applications really seems to make the difference vs. higher rates and stretching out the applications. As mentioned, weekly applications at lower rates work better than higher rates at infrequent intervals. We also have mixed in black paint for a little darker color. Start spraying BEFORE the turf starts losing its color. Vary your spray patterns to help everything blend.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info guys! We are currently using Foursome in our weekly foliar apps, so I may just stick with it. Although one of my vendors has an interesting new product that is a combination of a pigment, penetrant, and anti-dessicant....sounds promising for dormant turf applications.
