I have a pro and the pro's friends and a host of others at my facility who all think everytime they play they need to tee it up from the tips regardless of where the tee markers are.

This results of course in the backs of every tee being excessively chewed up. It really bothers me and this is a municipal facility so I'm a little unclear as to what should be done. These golfers (whether they pay or not) will do it in front of my face almost out of spite.

    Anybody come across this?

    Doug

Id say rope the section that's chewed up. It seems at a lot of public courses tee markers are merely a guide instead of a defined teeing area. I guess its the nature of the beast.

Welcome to the Muni mentality. If they're not playing the tips then they're not getting their moneys worth. Been here 21 years. We have nice tees except for around the blue (longest tees) permanent marker. We get around 90K rounds, and it is so silly to see these morons tee it up in a worn out area by the permanent marker when the tee blocks themselves are just a couple of yards in front and on nice grass. The permanent markers really ought to be removed.

    Doug,

I wish someone would play our course from the tips or even the middle of the back tee but that is another story. In my opinion they are only hurting themselves and reducing the quality of their wear area.

If I were you, I would just ignore it and let them play from the back of the back tees. The tee markers are in good areas for the rest of the customers so they will be happy, these jags will get to crow they tee off where they want, and you will have one less thing to worry about.

I am starting my 17th year at the muni and some things just are not worth worring about.

Only one response I could say is Stupid is as Stupid Does! Those people who choose to not play golf by the rules or think they can play from the tips as they are better than others are just fooling themselves and being bad examples to others who play the course by the rules. The ones who work there should set good examples for all to follow! A proper General Manager should not allow this to occur at all. Leading by example is how an employee shows others how to act, and follow the rules. I do this everyday as attempting to do my job, work harder than the rest, clean up always, represent my Boss, Golf Course, Environmental management philosophy and rules of golf as best as possible daily! Oh and when playing golf always play by the rules, shot 84 on Monday even after hitting one in the water off 14th tee, re-tee triple bogey! Smiled, fixed every divot and ball mark! Love what I do and the game of golf!

I work at a private club....

Our members are gracious enough to actually move the markers to their preferred teeing area.

I guess that is the difference between Public and Private clubs

 I get that a lot at our public course. I followed two groups the other day, one was primarily lefty and the other righty. I got my tee markers moved free on every dog leg hole.

Hey red at least you don't have to pay somebody to move them - look at the bright side
